The single overhead cam 2 litre GÇÿPintoGÇÖ engine arrived in FordGÇÖs UK range in 1970 aboard the Cortina Mk111 and has become almost as well known as any of the myriad of models it has powered. It was natural for Ford to drop the more powerful engine into the GÇÿAVOGÇÖ produced type-49 Escort RS body shell and go chasing group one honours in both racing and rallying.
