World War 2 - Era 3
LMS 'Black Five' 5112 waits at Chester Station Platform 5 in 1944 whilst a lone soldier crosses the footbridge at the same station.
During World War Two, railways in Britain saw a huge change in requirement as the war effort demanded that the network be used as efficiently as possible to ensure that materials, personnel and hardware were exactly where they needed to be at the right time.
This saw a general reduction in non-essential passenger traffic to prioritise freight movements which directly contributed to the war effort. In this guide there are a number of formations shown which provides an insight in to the type of traffic that would have been running during this period.
